SAFETY WARNING: Magnet Disclaimer

Magnet Disclaimer

This safety warning includes a magnet disclaimer for the GOPHY LLC product called the Pocket Gopher ("carrier"), which includes internal Neodymium magnets. These magnets are the strongest, most powerful magnets on earth with strong force. The following descriptions outline the potential risks associated with Neodymium magnets and the carrier. By reading this safety warning, each customer who purchases the carrier is aware of the risks associated with Neodymium magnets and understands the proper ways to handle the carrier and potential magnet related risks.  Each customer acknowledges they have been presented with the safety warning, assumes all liability as a result of purchasing and handling the carrier; and releases any liability from GOPHY LLC from any magnet related injuries, issues or death as a result of improperly handling the carrier.  The carrier was designed to secure and hide the magnets from handling; however the magnetic properties will still maintain through the carrier walls. Neodymium magnets will retain their magnetism and integrity for decades when handled, utilized and protected properly.

Neodymium Magnets Risks

Neodymium magnets can jump together, pinch the skin and cause serious injuries. Neodymium magnets will leap and slam together from several inches to several feet apart. If you have a finger in the way, it can get severely pinched or even broken. If the internal magnets break or stick out of the carrier, please consider discarding the carrier, do not try to fix it yourself and contact us at service@gophy.com for further assistance if you are within the return policy.
Neodymium magnets are brittle – and can easily shatter and break.

Neodymium magnets are brittle and will peel, chip, crack or shatter if allowed to slam together, even from just a few inches apart. Despite being made of metal and coated with a shiny nickel-plating, they are not as hard as steel. Shattering magnets can send small sharp metal pieces into the air at great speeds. Eye protection is recommended and safe handling if the Neodymium magnets are exposed.

Keep neodymium magnets away from all children.

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Do not allow children to handle or play with them. Small magnets can pose a serious choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attach to each other through intestinal walls causing serious injuries and even death.

Keep neodymium magnets away from anyone with a pacemaker.

Neodymium magnets create strong magnetic fields around them, which can interfere with pacemakers, ICDs and other implanted medical devices. This is because many of these devices are made with a feature that deactivates the device in a magnetic field. If you are unsure if you are permitted to be around Neodymium magnets, contact your healthcare provider prior to purchasing this carrier.

Keep neodymium magnets away from magnetic media.

The strong magnetic fields emanating from neodymium magnets can damage magnetic media such as credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes, mobile phones, laptops, iPads or other such devices. They can also damage older televisions, VCRs, computer monitors and CRT displays. Keep your magnetic media in a reasonable distance to prevent any magnetic damage. If you are unsure about a device, contact your provider or retailer.

Keep neodymium magnets away from your GPS and smartphone.

Magnetic fields interfere with compasses or magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as the internal compasses of smartphone and GPS devices. If you are unsure about a device, contact your provider or retailer.

Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy.

Studies show a small percentage of people suffer from an allergy to some metals including nickel. The allergic reaction is often manifested in redness and a skin rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try wearing gloves or avoid directly handling nickel-plated neodymium magnets.  If you are unsure if you are permitted to be around Neodymium magnets, contact your healthcare provider prior to purchasing this carrier.

Neodymium magnets can become demagnetized at high temperatures.

While magnets have been proven to retain their effectiveness up to 80°C or 175°F, this temperature may vary depending on the grade, shape and application of the particular magnet. This carrier is meant to stick to the golf cart but in the event the temperature is higher than  80°C, there is a possibility the carrier may not stick to the golf cart pole.

Neodymium magnet dust and powder are flammable.

Avoid drilling or machining neodymium magnets. When ground into a dust or powder, this material is highly flammable. Keep the carrier away from any flames.

Neodymium magnets can corrode.

Our magnets are finished with a nickel plating, and this coating provides enough protection for most applications. But remember, neodymium magnets are not waterproof. They will rust or corrode in the presence of moisture. If used underwater, outdoors or in a moist environment, they can corrode and lose magnetic strength., too include outside at the golf course over time.

Recommendations on Handling Neodymium Magnets Safely

  • Do not open the internal components of the carrier to pull out the magnets
  • If the magnets are unexpectedly exposed through the fabric within the refund policy timeframe, contact us at service@gophy.com
  • If the magnets no longer work to stick to a metal surface within the refund policy timeframe, do not try to replace them on your own
  • If the magnets break, do not try to repair it on your own
  • Pay close attention when you are separating or handling magnets if needed.
  • To separate magnets, grasp the outside magnet, slide it off the stack and pull it away quickly.
  • These magnets must be handled properly to avoid potential personal injuries, damage to items, or to the magnets themselves.
  • If you have health related concerns, pace maker, or allergies to Neodymium Magnets, consult with your healthcare provider prior to purchasing and utilizing this product.
  • Seek medical advice in advance and assistance if you are unsure about the affects of the magnets to your health
  • Seek immediate medical attention for any serious injuries as a result of the magnets
