How your head is positioned at setup can greatly affect success or failure in the golf swing. For the right-handed golfer, tilting your head too much towards your left shoulder will limit your turn in the backswing and encourages the swing path to be too out-to-in. Out-to-in means the club will traveling with too much of a leftward path through impact, usually causing a slice and large deep divots. If we think of a baseball diamond and we are standing at home plate, we want the club swinging more out to right field rather than left field. (Left Field = Slice, Right Field = Draw) To help swing on the correct path and hit a nice draw, your head should be tilted slightly towards the right shoulder at setup, which in turn gets your eyeline looking more out to right field for the right-handed golfer. From this position it will be much easier to make a nice turn in the backswing and swing from in-to-out or (out to right field) and hit that little draw.
TIP: Keep the bill of your hat pointing behind the ball at setup. Your head will naturally start to release and look towards the target in the follow through.
